Role Background

 

The client runs a portfolio of 12+ transactional websites across 2 different platforms. Both platforms run php based back-ends, one on Drupal CMS and another on a custom CMS. Both are tightly integrated with our custom in-house line of business system.

As well as the above transactional sites, the Global Technology team are also responsible for managing the server infrastructure that our main websites run on as well as some other non-transactional websites.

The client has to-date extensively used agencies for major website builds and on-going maintenance and while we expect to continue to use agencies for major projects, we now have an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to take-over iterative development work and ongoing maintenance needs of our websites. We are looking for someone that has a broad range of experience across back-end and front-end web development.

Job Purpose & Responsibilities:

  • To enhance our websites through quality and efficient coding using security best practices
  • To implement and maintain solid version control systems to manage code bases
  • To implement and maintain solid processes for releasing new code ensuring adequate Q/A
  • To liaise with external agencies conducting web development work and contribute to the project management of this work
  • To prioritise workload under the guidance of the Senior Digital Manager
  • Play a critical part in steering larger web development projects
  • To aid in managing back-end web-server infrastructure to ensure to ensure availability and adequate performance/response times

Responsibilities

  • Write well designed, testable, efficient code by using best software development practices
  • Create website layout/user interface by using standard HTML/CSS practices and utilisation of responsive frameworks (e.g. bootstrap)
  • Monitor web-page errors and act accordingly
  • Integrate data from various back-end services and databases
  • Gather and refine specifications and requirements based on technical needs
  • Create and maintain software documentation
  • Ensure tracking/analytics tags are configured and operating optimally
  • Stay plugged into emerging technologies/industry trends and apply them into operations and activities
  • Cooperate with web designers to match visual design intent
  • Constantly review our websites to seek opportunities for improved SEO and usability opportunities
  • Play key part in maintaining and enhancing CMS systems (e.g. Drupal) and ensure CMS users are well informed and supported as necessary

 

Experience/Qualifications:

 

  • 3+ years front and back end web development
  • Understanding of travel industry is preferred
  • Relevant professional qualifications

Skills:

  • Expert in back-end server-side programming – PHP
  • Expert in front-end technologies – HTML5, CSS
  • Expert in Javascript and related libraries
  • Significant experience of using responsive frameworks and JS libraries
  • In depth knowledge of Google Analytics, Tag Manager and SEO considerations
  • Apache / Linux /MySQL experience
  • Experience and understanding of Amazon Web Services
  • Drupal 7 CMS experience
  • Project management skills that ensure organized, on-time execution
